Adaptive memory: preserving the unfinished
1 min read
Many cities hold structures that were started and never completed. Rather than demolishing them, adaptive reuse can turn an unfinished frame into a building with a new purpose.
Starting from what exists
A careful survey establishes what the existing structure can carry and what must be repaired. The design then works with the frame instead of against it.
Reusing a structure keeps its embodied material in use and often shortens the construction programme.
