Restructuring density: low-rise urbanism

1 min read

Density does not always mean height. Compact low-rise neighbourhoods can house many people while keeping streets walkable and buildings at a human scale.

Close, shaded and connected

Narrower streets, shared courtyards and mixed uses at ground level reduce walking distances and create shade between buildings.

This pattern draws on traditional settlements in the region and adapts them to current standards for access, services and privacy.
