Volumetric poetry: crafting public scale
1 min read
Public buildings are experienced first as volume: the height of an entrance, the depth of a hall, the way light enters from above. These proportions shape how welcome a visitor feels.
Scale people can read
Large spaces work when they are broken into parts a person can understand. Thresholds, changes in ceiling height and clear routes help visitors orient themselves without signage doing all the work.
Getting scale right is tested early through sections and physical or digital models, long before materials are chosen.
